Wow!  Talk about the “hostess with the mostest”  We at Drifters Lodge have the pleasure of having Carrol (our 66 year old volunteer/friend/“lodge mother”).  She is usually awake before anyone else to put on “Carrols” expanded Continental Breakfast during our high season June 7 - September 7. She prepares fresh baked croissants, muffins, bagels and assorted goodies for our hungriest of guests (her morning brownies are my favorite).  There is also fresh fruit, cereals, OJ, coffee, tea, cocoa and much more.  In the early morning for guests who are fishing, they will find that she is waiting to greet them with her first batches out of the oven. carrol fishing
Carrol catches a salmon

Carrol had a great 2007.  After much coaxing, Guide Jason Simmons , took her fishing and she caught the first fish of her life.  September of 2007 she was back on the river with her first salmon catch.  I think we created a monster.

In 2008 I hope we can keep her in the kitchen (LOL).  She can't wait to go fishing again, look out guys.

Carrol is a real true Alaskan; if you ask her a question expect a direct answer, because she tells it like she sees it.  Breakfast ends at 10 AM for those who need to rest up after a exciting day of adventures. Carrol is a real treat for all.  She dives right in when something is needed; we thank her for that daily.  She has been with us since we opened and knows almost everything, just ask her.

Carrol and friend We are fortunate to have her. She is a welcome site to our returning guests and a mother figure to the entire staff.  You have our promise; Carrol is a character to be reckoned with.
Enjoy her and bon appetit.
