Alaska Fishing Packages
Spring 2008
Spring fishing in Alaska is virtually an untouched secret. This is the perfect reason to take advantage of our inaugural year promotion of Alaska Fishing Packages Spring 2008. Please take advantage of this opportunity to fish in the solitude that Alaska allows, at introductory prices. The guides are the same expert guides Drifters Lodge uses all summer and fall therefore you can expect only the best. It is different because there is snow on the ground in early spring. It can be cold but it can be hot fishing also. Walk-in bank fishing is the normal method of fishing but drift boat fishing is more likely as spring progresses.
Your fishing adventure will take you on a choice of five productive Kenai Peninsula Rivers. Theses Rivers include the Kenai River, Russian River, Kasilof River, Deep Creek, Ninilchik River and the Anchor River. The guides will be available to answer your questions and will inform you on what is fishing the best at the time you are planning to come.
STEELHEAD
With the spring thaw happening and the steelhead making their way back to the salt water this can lead to some very productive days for those willing to brave the elements. Drifters Lodge’s “fearless” guides will be there with you doing their best to make it happen. Walk in fishing turns into drift boat fishing later in the spring. Nice days in February thru May. Please don’t tell anyone about this.
KINGS
For those early bird fishermen who don’t like the crowds “Spring King Fishing” is available on the Kasilof River starting in early May. The Kenai River Kings are a little less abundant at this time but the World Record King Salmon caught was on the Kenai River on May 17, 1985. The King’s start returning to spawn and no one is there to greet them. The first run of Kings on the Kasilof is little smaller but they are great fighters. Drifter’s guides will be there and you can too.
HALIBUT
The halibut start their trek in from the deeper water and are close to shore at the end of April beginning of May. Fresh halibut in May sounds pretty good about now.
TROUT
Trout fishing on the Kenai River is many times spectacular in early spring and continues until May 1 when the fishery closes for the annual “Spawning of the Rainbows”. Fishing on the Kenai River reopens in mid June (changes year to year) and the first few days are hot and heavy. Drifter’s guides are ready for the opener.
